Putting 6×9s in your Integra is easy

May 17, 2007

The stock speakers in my 2-door Integra are 5 inch speakers that are stamped “MEXICO”. I’m replacing all of them. A lot of people claim these speakers are 5.5 or 6.5 inches. If you measure the speaker itself it’s hardly more than 5″. Including the rim the entire speaker assembly measures 6 and 1/8 inches.

First, I’m going to put 6×9 inch speakers in the rear speaker positions (not the cargo tray!). A lot of forums make the project sound complex or even impossible. I was amazed at how easy it was to remove the interior pieces and mount 6×9s with no custom brackets.

Integra 6×9 myths

  • Custom speaker brackets are needed
  • There’s not enough room to mount a 6×9
  • The interior metal must be cut

There are some modifications involved, but this is a fun project overall that uses only basic tools. During this modification, much of the interior behind the front seats must be removed. Learning this procedure allows you to access the rear speakers and all rear electronics.
